Topic for November 2004 meeting

I've volunteered to speak on Ubuntu Linux - www.ubuntulinux.org (reviews
at http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/09/27/201202 and
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/10/03/1233220 among others) but
there's been some concern that having distro discussions two months in a
row would be a bad thing.

I'm all for variety and would be happy to postpone an Ubuntu
demonstration to another month (or scrap it all together if there's no
interest).

Dave Brown suggested that we have discussions on specific
applications/servers or specific pieces of a particular distro rather
than the broad overviews that we've had several times this year. In the
past, we've had presentations on XFree86 and Debian's apt, as well as
other specific applications/technologies.

There's been some discussions on the forums about possible topics. One
promising potential speaker is a Linux consultant from Louisville who
could speak on a variety of topics. He's the author of Eterm
(a terminal emulator - www.eterm.org) and is active in CAOS/CentOS Linux
distro projects (www.caosity.org). There's also someone who volunteered
to speak on the Linux Terminal Server Project (www.ltsp.org) but I
haven't heard back from him recently.

Other possibilities include updating old presentations - one particular
application I've presented on in the past that I find particularly
interesting is MythTV (www.mythtv.org). It's improved quite a bit since
I spoke about it at the April 2, 2003 CINLUG meeting.

Any comments/suggestions?

I like to send out the meeting announcements two weeks in advance so
people can determine if the topic interests them and plan their
schedules accordingly. That gives us a little less than two weeks to
come up with a November topic.
