I accept this challenge! These three commands are conceptually similar enough to be thought of as one utility, and they all come from util-linux: chrt, ionice, and choom. These allow processes to be prioritized with respect to accessing CPU time, disks, and memory respectively. For those reading this I must warn you, DO NOT change these scheduling policies carelessly—this can cause system hangs and even deadlocks that last forever. Real-time scheduling is mainly of interest in embedded systems, but tomorrow I'll talk about a specific way they can be useful for general-purpose machines.
