Subject mangling

Now honestly, that's just going to start a flame.  Please give a reason
for opinions since most of us don't know what the others are thinking.

The dangerous part of the headers and footers is the horrid length
messages and subjects get from people using various mail clients.

I don't have a preference either way, but if anyone cares, please give a
reason.
