[CINLUG] Overzealous spam blocklists

I'm all for reducing spam but when the spam fighting techniques add an
unecessary burden on legitimate communication, they've gone to far.

I e-mailed webmaster at linux.org to get CINLUG added to
http://www.linux.org/groups/usa/indiana.html and received a bounce
message saying my message was blocked by their dialup DNS blocklist. At
first I didn't think much of it (thinking maybe they detected my Comcast
cable modem IP, although that would be odd since I relay through my
colo'd box) and resent my message from my colo'd box. The message
bounced again and I noticed their blocklist erroneously listed my colo
IP as a dialup. I had to send the message to a specially formated
address to bypass their misconfigured blocklist.

Anyway, I'll quit ranting for now. If we ever do another presentation
about spam, I'll be sure to include something about overzealous spam
fighting techniques.
