Looking towards 2026, Michael Slattery is going to speak on some of the cool utilities that he uses during his day-to-day work.
This got us talking. did you know there are 231 commands that come in Fedora Linux's coreutils, util-linux and util-linux-core packages? (I'm sure there are similar numbers in other distributions' equivalent packages.) I sure don't know what many of them do... do you?
So for the Wednesday, February 4, 2026 meeting let's try this: get at least 12 people to pick a utility and give *just a 5 minute talk* on it... nothing fancy; there doesn't even have to be slides or anything. We just need 5 minutes of what the utility does, some of its options and examples of how to to use it. So easy, and I think we'll all learn something new that night!
What do you all say? Are you up for it? Who wants to be the 1st to pick a utility? There are 231 to choose from:
rpm -ql coreutils util-linux util-linux-core | grep bin
:-)
Reply back to cinlug at lists.cinlug.org (not just me) if you want to participate, naming which utility you want to briefly speak on. We just need 12 volunteers to fill an hour -- this will be great!
